Emergency Road Closure Notice – Hillside Avenue Drainage Repair
Watertown/Oakville, CT – October 26, 2026

An emergency drainage repair project on Hillside Avenue will begin tomorrow, October 27, 2026, and is expected to continue through October 30, 2026.
Town of Watertown Department of Public Works (DPW) identified a complete failure of approximately 150 feet of 24-inch corrugated metal pipe (CMP) beneath the roadway and approximately 50 feet of 12-inch reinforced concrete pipe (RCP).

The emergency repair will include:
•Removal of the failed CMP and inspect / evaluate the RCP
•Installation of new 24-inch High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe
•Backfilling of the excavation
•Roadway paving and restoration

The work is anticipated to take 3–4 days to complete and will be performed by Dayton Construction Company, Inc. in coordination with the Watertown Highway Department.

Road Closure Information:
Hillside Avenue will be closed between:
•Main Street (SR 73)
•Buckingham Street (SR 855)
Ball Farm Road at the Intersection of Hillside Road
Key Closure Area is at Ball Farm Road and Hillside

Detour Route
Motorists are advised to use the following roads as detour routes:
•Buckingham Street (SR 855)
•Main Street (SR 73)

Police, Fire, and EMS vehicles will maintain access to the area throughout the duration of the project and will be accommodated as needed to ensure timely emergency response. School Buses will also have access to this area but will experience a slight delay to move equipment. Local Access for the residents will also be maintained.

We thank residents and the traveling public for their patience and cooperation during this emergency repair. These improvements are necessary to maintain the safety and reliability of our road network. Plus to ensure the safety and productivity of the crews performing the work.

Update on Project Locations and Schedule

The 2026 roadway improvement program includes work at the following locations:

  • Farview Circle
  • Country Lane
  • Hinman Road
  • Skilton Road

The project will consist of roadway reclaiming and paving at these locations to improve roadway conditions and extend pavement life.

Hinman Road is scheduled to undergo reclaiming operations on October 19 and October 20, weather permitting. Paving is expected to follow shortly thereafter.

Weather permitting, work on Hinman Road, Skilton Road, and Farview Circle is anticipated to be completed by the end of October 2026.

The Town of Watertown appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents and motorists as these roadway improvements are completed.
We encourage everyone to exercise caution in work zones and follow all posted traffic controls to help ensure the safety of workers and the traveling public.

Watertown Announces Bunker Hill Rd and Wilson St Milling and Paving – Expect Delays
Watertown, CT - October 05, 2026 Update

The Town of Watertown Department of Public Works announces that preparatory work for the upcoming Milling & Paving roadway rehabilitation project will take place on Bunker Hill Rd from Commercial Street to Waterbury city line and Wilson Dr from Tuesday, October 6, 2026, through Friday, October 9, 2026.

Work will be performed daily from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. During these hours, motorists should expect temporary road closures and signed detours while crews complete the necessary preparation work in advance of the milling and paving process. This work is essential to ensure the roadway is properly prepared for the upcoming rehabilitation.

Local traffic and emergency vehicles will be accommodated, motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes and allow additional travel time. Residents and businesses along the project route will continue to have access, although brief delays may occur.

TRANSFER STATION CLOSED SATURDAY

Household Hazardous Waste Important Event Update
Watertown, CT - Sept 24th 2026

Due to the forecasted weather conditions of heavy winds and rain associated with the nor’easter expected this Friday into Saturday, the Fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026 has been canceled.

We want to ensure that residents and staff remain safe. We appreciate your understanding. The next Household Hazardous Waste event will be held at Ansonia Transfer Station, 1 North Division St. on Saturday, November 14th. 

Paving, Reclaiming, and Milling: Anticipated Schedule
Watertown CT - September 18th 2026

These are the anticipated dates when each road is on the schedule for the paving program as well as the roads done by Indus industries, dates are when they should start in that area on the roads and expect to be there 2 to 4 days depending on the amount of paving needed.
